This activity was planned to meet the needs of pharmacists enrolled in the Shenandoah University Bernard J. Dunn School of Pharmacy Nontraditional Doctor of Pharmacy Pathway.
This knowledge-based online home-study activity consists of recorded lectures with PowerPoint slides and notes, readings in textbooks, and online assessments/exams. Practice problems will be provided to allow the pharmacist to apply the theoretical and functional principles presented in the lectures.
The goal of this activity is to develop the pharmacists’ skills to apply specific pharmacokinetic and pharmacogenomic concepts to individual endocrine, reproduction, hematology, oncology and infectious disease drugs and assess their clinical applications.
Shenandoah University Bernard J. Dunn School of Pharmacy is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education.
Requirements for CE Credit
Pharmacists must complete the following items by the due dates specified in the online academic course that correlates to this activity to receive CPE credit:
- Review all online lectures associated with this activity.
- Complete and submit all assignments associated with this activity.
- Complete all online assessments/exams associated with this activity with a combined average score of at least 70%. Participants will only have one opportunity to access each assessment/exam and must complete the assessment/exam within the allotted time limit.
- Complete the online CPE evaluation for this activity.
- Apply basic pharmacokinetic principles to individual drugs and drug classes
- Devise an initial dosage regimen and monitoring strategy using pharmacokinetic and pharmacogenomic principles and methods for drugs with a narrow therapeutic range or marked variability in their drug disposition
- Recommend modifications in drug therapy based on the changes in the patient's clinical condition that may alter drug pharmacokinetics
- Describe laboratory drug monitoring techniques used to measure drug concentrations and pharmacogenetic testing techniques
- Interpret the validity and utility of blood samples to aid in the assessment of a patient's therapeutic disposition of therapeutically monitored drugs
- Evaluate the clinical and pharmacokinetic and pharmacogenomic literature in terms of validity and clinical applications
- Apply pharmacokinetic and pharmacogenomic principles to therapeutic agents for which serum concentrations are not routinely monitored
