This activity is for pharmacists who want to gain knowledge in SBIRT training and practice implementation.
Objectives
- Define SBIRT and understand the rationale for universal screening.
- Identify medical and psychological comorbidities of substance misuse and abuse.
- Identify risk factors for opioid misuse and abuse.
- Determine the appropriate pre-screening and screening tools to use in different patient populations and define at-risk and dependence levels of alcohol consumption.
- Distinguish substance use disorders from psychiatric comorbidities in older adults.
- Describe what substance misuse and abuse look like in older adults and how it may contribute to comorbidities.
- Define motivational interviewing and identify techniques to help patients change risky behaviors.
- Identify resources for referral to treatment in the Lord Fairfax Health District and how to find resources in other districts.
- Identify ways to bill for SBIRT services provided.
