NTDP-Principles of Pharmacokinetics

This activity was planned to meet the needs of pharmacists enrolled in the Shenandoah University Bernard J. Dunn School of Pharmacy Nontraditional Doctor of Pharmacy Pathway.
This knowledge-based online home-study activity consists of recorded lectures with PowerPoint slides and notes, readings in textbooks and journal articles, assignments, and online assessments/exams. Case studies within the lectures and assignments will enable the pharmacists to apply the information from the lectures to specific patient scenarios.

Requirements for CE Credit

Pharmacists must complete the following items by the due dates specified in the online academic course that correlates to this activity to receive CPE credit:
  1. Review all online lectures associated with this activity.
  2. Complete and submit all assignments associated with this activity.
  3. Complete all online assessments/exams associated with this activity with a combined average score of at least 70%. Participants will only have one opportunity to access each assessment/exam and must complete the assessment/exam within the allotted time limit. 
  4. Complete the online CPE evaluation for this activity.





  • Define, explain and differentiate fundamental principles and functional relationships of primary parameters of pharmacokinetics
  • Calculate values of primary pharmacokinetic parameters from (a) drug in plasma concentration and post-dosing time data expressed in graphs, tables, and equations, and (b) other relevant pharmacokinetic information
  • Identify and evaluate the potential of the following factors to either not change, or significantly decrease or increase the rate and extent of drug absorption and elimination, and the extent of drug distribution: a. route of administration, b. characteristics of drug dosage form or delivery system, c. functional status of elimination organs and tissues, gastrointestinal tract, and cardiovascular system, d. biosocial practices, including eating, alcohol consumption, and smoking
  • Calculate the amount and frequency of drug dosage, or dosage regimen, using patient-specific and drug-specific information regarding bioavailability, elimination half-life, clearance, and apparent volume of distribution
